My final idea for the glass form, based on showing a collection of people my final 4 ideas and getting their opinions on each one. This is developed from the spinning top shapes I previously uploaded but keeping the curved base .

Final 4 ideas for the glass form very slight changes on the width and curves ?

Inside of the wine glass

This is an attempt to keep the glass somewhat fixed to the stem so that you can drink from the glass while holding the stem or remove the tumbler like before. What do you guys think?

Thursday, November 14, 2013

After last nights Skype session, I went away trying to develop an effective form for the glass. I started by thinking about what other products spin ? I ended up looking at spinning tops an old childhood toy, I looked at these to help try to find an effective form.

These are just initial sketches and renders to get the form idea across. I aim to make the centre of the glass thinner for easier grip. Some feedback on the general form direction would be good so I can develop further and start to get a final form for the glass .

a shorter stem? and materials and finishes

I worked on maybe shortening the stem and considered different materials and finishes.

Rendering WIne Glasses

Experimenting with new shapes, adding interest to the base to show immediately that this is not your average wine glass

New rendered designs

Taking away the extrusion in the glass and using the stem as a holder for the glass instead.
Would be great for parties as each guest would know what glass is theirs from the coloured stem.
Would also be good for meal time use as a tumbler for the children and wine glass for adults.
Materials - coloured plastic for the stem and then a clear glass tumbler that fits perfectly inside.

Ideas for the stem

This is just some messing around. Still working on some more ideas. I'll post them when
I'm done.
Hi guys,
I am unable to Skype tonight but I will carry on developing the idea to show on Wednesday. I do however feel like we are both travelling different directions with the wine glass, I do like the wobble glass but do feel that it is very problematic regarding spills and small children. So I have taken it down a similar but more stable route. Any feedback at all would be useful at this time as we only have a short time to develop.

Stem use ideas

Stem connects to top of bowl for transportation or storage.
Extrusion in bottom of bowl is made from silicone so that it can flew inside out for storage over the stem.

Research
I have looked into a designer called Nika Zupanc and some of her designs hold a very close
resemblance to some of our work. So i have started to take the wine glass in a slightly different direction still trying to keep the 'wobble' aesthetic but not as obvious.
I have also found this table by the same designer that again is very similar to the design idea.

This table has also got me interested in the filing idea again but trying to mix that with
the photo frames that you have designed .

Hi guys I have uploaded these so that everything is on the blog. We got some good feedback from
Umbra last week, I have had some development ideas for the picture frame taking on board what was said
about trying to tell a story with the photos. Hopefully tomorrow we can get a good idea of exactly what we want to develop further. :)

rough storyboard: wine glass

Story Boards for the Dish Rack Concept.

email reply

Hi guys
Thanks for your comments on my party tray concept. We are currently working between sketch and cad models. The reason for the 5 glasses is that a generic family is often made up of 5 people , 2 parents 3 children, this might be considered ideal for a meal time setting. The parents can have a glass of wine and the children can have juice in the wine tumbler. The colours on the render were to add a fun and relaxed feel to the product. However as a development this would hopefully be made out of black glass for the tray and clear glass for the wine tumbler or a bright ABS base with clear glass tumblers. We have got some estimates to get this idea prototyped in shanghai and in the national centre for glass in Sunderland.

Wine glass renders

This is where I'm at with the wine glass so far, these are just early renders that we can tweak as needed. I'm also considering 3d printing it so that we have a visual model for the video.

glass together
glass separated
plastic together
plastic separated

PARTY TRAY
Glass tumblers detach from the stems to use, the stems stay attached to the tray . This is perfect for
parties and dinner time use. Glass shape is based around a flower with more development this would become a more organic piece.
I am really passionate about this idea and i'm really keen to see this being presented to umbra i have a model that will be shown in the video along with supporting renders. Any ideas or comments ?
